Many dog owners find that they have no idea when their pregnant dog will give birth. The worst part of it is that they do not know what symptoms to look for when it comes to knowing if their dog is pregnant and when she is likely to give birth. When your dog gives birth it can be a wonderful time, but there are also lots of worries that go with it.

Here are the five symptoms to look for when you want to know you that your dog is ready to give birth.

· Your dog’s temperature may drop to around 97-98 degrees approximately, around 24 hours before giving birth. If she does not give birth within a period of one day of the temperature drop, you should contact your local vet.

· The bitch refuses to eat. Obviously this is not normal for dogs, this gives you an indication that she is on labor.

· She tries to be close to you; maybe sleeping under your bed for long periods.

· She becomes restless and may pant, shiver, or vomit.

· You start seeing your bitch expressing her nesting instincts, scratching at the floor or in her bed, and displaying signs of increasing restlessness.

Keep in mind that dog pregnancies are quite short, only around 9 weeks, so make sure you are well prepared in time to receive your puppies.

Finally, go by your gut instinct! If your dog is acting strangely or differently, it is probably trying to tell you something.
Noticing these signs of dog labor symptoms will allow you to be prepared and ready, and you will also be able to show your dog with compassion and confident actions that you know she’s ready and this in turn will give her the comfort she needs to begin.
These are just some of the dog labor symptoms, and although common, it is not unheard of for labor to start almost unannounced.

They are a mix of Yorkshire terrier and Maltese.

Are Morkie Dogs Hypoallergenic?

The morkie fur is of the softest silkiest furs of all the breeds. They are a hypoallergenic dog that don’t shed, and because they are lap dogs that don’t shed, a lot of people are greatly attracted to these dogs. Along with morkies, other hypoallergenic breeds and non shedding dogs are yorkies, poodles, yorkie poos, and Malteses.

Is there such a thing as an AKC Morkie?

No. There is no such breed as “morkie”. Morkie dogs are a Maltese Yorkshire mix. They also commonly know as designer puppy breeds. Many celebrity puppies are morkies or a Yorkie and Maltese mix. The only designer breed registry in which to register your puppies is CKC or Continental Kennel Club.

Got a morkie puppy, now what?

What kinds of Yorkie Maltese exercises should I give my puppy?

Teacup and toy morkies do not need an extreme amount of exercise. They are small mix breed dogs and and do not require much. A simple walk twice a day is good. Because the mixed breed is an intelligent dog, they require lots of dog toys that are puzzles. Any dog toy where you can hide the treat and have your morkie puppy find it is best.

Is training a morkie easy?

Morkie puppy training can be quite easy, however with the Yorkie temperament, these dogs can sometimes be stubborn. However with the Maltese mixed in, this designer dog breed makes for a very smart puppy with a little time and patience.

There are many Maltese Yorkie training tips that can go a long way.

It is very important to crate train your morkie puppy when you first adopt one. This will allow for a more effective puppy pee training. It will also allow for easy puppy pee pad training if you would like your puppy to be able to be trained both indoors and out.

When you first receive your maltese yorkie puppy, it is very important for your puppy to go through a puppy socialization period. Socializing a puppy is good because this will allow your morkie puppy not to be anxious around other dogs or humans. They best way to socialize puppies is either through puppy play days or taking them to dog parks. Make sure your morkie puppy has all its required shots and wormings before doing so.

It is importing to teach your puppy basic training as early as possible. Puppy basic training would include but not be limited to teaching your dog how to sit, stay, down and dog commands such as use of the word NO, and the power of the a positive word, such as YES or GOOD BOY.

The standard Yorkshire terrier show coat is long with the top knot tied up on top of the head with a bow. This is a very hard style to maintain. To keep the dog looking well groomed, you must brush the coat daily and shampoo and condition the coat at least weekly. If you fail to keep up this grooming routine, your Yorkies long coat will end up a tangled mess.

The Yorkshire Terrier’s coat can be either soft or silky. The soft coat is harder to maintain. Soft hair mats more, is more difficult to keep clean and it breaks more easily.

If your dog is a ‘show dog’ you will have to resign yourself to this rigorous grooming schedule for the entire time you will be showing your Yorkie. If he’s a family pet, you will probably be much happier keeping his hair in a short cut. One of the most popular short styles is the puppy cut. The puppy cut is essentially just trimming the coat into short layers all over the body and around the face.

Another popular short style is the modified Schnauzer cut. This is the cut I prefer for my Yorkie. This cut is where the coat is trimmed short on the torso and left a bit longer, or feathered, on the legs. The face is trimmed in the traditional Schnauzer mustache and beard.

Here is how to groom your Yorkie at home:

Buy a grooming table with a grooming post or arm and a grooming loop. A grooming table teaches the dog that being groomed is not a time to play around or act up. The grooming loop helps the dog keep still and not jump off the table. The table gives you, the groomer, a comfortable place to work.

You will also have to purchase a professional dog grooming clipper. A good clipper is the Andis AG One Speed clipper. It comes with a #10 blade and a 4 ounce bottle of clipper oil. The one speed model is adequate for a Yorkshire Terrier’s coat. You will need a few other size blades. The blades warm up as you cut, so you need to change them often or they will burn your dog. Get two #10 blades, and two #7F blades. (more if you have more than one dog to do in a row).

The #10 blade is used for the body, head, neck, bottom and cheeks. For a dog with a thin coat, you will want to use a size #8 1/2 blade for this. To leave the coat longer for winter time, use a #7F blade.

Also, get two #40 blades for inside the ears and between the foot pads.

If your Yorkie is small and has a silky coat and is kept tangle-free, you only need a small clipper such as the Laube Speed Feed Kit. This is a cordless, lightweight, ultra quiet clipper with very low vibration. It comes with 2 batteries and the blade adjusts from size 9 to 10, 15, 30 and 40.

New blades must always be cleaned with a blade cleaner before use to remove the protective coating put on at the factory. The blades won’t cut well until they have been cleaned. Always clean anf oil your blades after a few uses with blade cleaner and blade oil..

You will also need scissors to do finishing work. You will need 8 1/2 straight shears for the legs and body. (Roseline JFRL82085 are good). Also, you will need thinning shears to blend the hair on the cheeks and near the eyes. (The Fromm 44 tooth thinning shear FMRS44 is a good one).

Yorkshire Terrier needs to have their hair cut every 4-8 weeks to keep them looking their best. The time between cuts depends on how quickly the hair grows.

Giving your Yorkie a hair cut:

1. Shave the abdomen, the crotch and around the anus with your clipper and a #10 blade.

2. Then use the #10 blade on a third distal of the ears (inner and outer); and over the top part of the muzzle from the nose to the eyes.

3. Use blade numbers 4, 5 or 7 over the head by following the direction of the hair starting slightly behind eyebrows until the back of the neck and slightly on the sides. Don’t go down to the temples.

4. Shave the chin all the way to the throat.

5. Cut the hair on the chest and the trunk until the beginning of the tail as well as the sides and under always going the direction of the hair growth. Do this to the legs, stomach, bottom and chest.

6. Shave the lower part of the paws.

7. Cut the ears to a point with the straight scissors.

8. Cut around the contour of the paws.

9. Brush the eyebrows forward and cut them with the scissors following the natural arch of the head.

10. Brush the hair on the cheeks forward and arch from the base of the ear to the angle of the nose.

11. Brush the sides of the head outward and cut them in a rounded shape.

12. Brush the hairs on the chin downwards and even them out.

13. Blend everything with the thinning shears so the cut marks don’t show.

PLEASE NOTE: Buy a good Yorkshire Terrier Dog Grooming Video and study that carefully before attempting to groom your Yorkie for the first time.

After cutting your dog’s hair, give him a good bath. (Also be sure to bathe him weekly to keep his coat clean and shiny and his skin healthy). Clip the dog’s nails before bathing. Use a good clipper and follow the directions that come with it.

Fill the kitchen sink with comfortably warm water. Use a rubber mat in the sink so the dog will not slip. Use a good dog shampoo and dog conditioner. For the Yorkie’s face, use a Puppy ‘No Tears’ shampoo that won’t sting his eyes.

Be sure to wash his ears using a dog ear wash. Rinse all the soap from your Yorkie’s coat with clear warm water. Rinse well. Dry the hair with a blow dryer or let air dry.

Yorkies need to have their excess ear hair pulled out. Usually you can use your fingers to pull out the hair, and a little Groomer’s Ear Powder helps to grip the hair better. Brush and arrange the hair when it is thoroughly dry.

With a little practice, you will be able to groom your Yorkshire Terrier yourself. Don’t worry. If you do make a mistake, a yorkie’s hair grows quickly!

If you are looking for a fabulous small dog, you may want to learn all about Morkies. They are a hybrid dog with one parent being a Yorkshire Terrier and one being a Maltese. You definitely want to get one that has purebreds as parents though in order to justify the cost of these animals. You will find there are quite a few breeders out there though due to the popularity of Morkies.

Since this is a mixed breed, the coloring of your puppy will vary from shades of light brown to dark black. Many of them have shades of white in them as well which comes from the Maltese side of the genetics. It isn’t uncommon for these puppies to feature many colors which helps give them a more distinct look. When you go to see a litter of puppies from a breeder, ask to see the parents too. This way you can get an idea of what your Morkie may end up looking like.

They are very easy to groom and they don’t shed very much at all. This is good news for those that get annoyed with dog hair all over their home and their car. This is a very small breed of dog though so they need to be kept indoors. Morkies aren’t a good idea if you want a dog you can place outdoors.

You do have to be careful with them though due to the small size. They can be injured or killed should they get stepped on or fall off of something. They are very cute dogs and you can be sure that their overall characteristics as well as small size will get them plenty of attention from all that see you with them. While Morkies are very social animals, they can also be independent as well. So you won’t need to entertain them as much as some other breeds of dogs.

Both of these breeds of dogs have wonderful personalities so you should get a delightful puppy with plenty to offer. Some common characteristics include being playful, being hard headed, social with other animals and people, and being extremely intelligent. They don’t seem to suffer from too many known health problems that are genetically related. A healthy diet and regular checkups from your veterinarian will help them to be as healthy as possible. On average, Morkies live for about 15 years.

Many people would love to have a dog of their own but due to allergies they can’t. Morkies are among the few breeds of dogs that seem to do very well with those that usually suffer from allergies though. Therefore it may be worth looking into so you don’t’ have to give up your desire to have a dog of your own.

Yorkiepoo puppies are a new breed of dog, commonly known as designer breed dogs. When a Yorkshire terrier and a Poodle are bred together the offspring are called Yorkie Poo.

Yorkie-Poo is the official name accepted by the American Canine Hybrid Club.

Yorkiepoo puppies are becoming more and more popular in America and across the seas.

Lots of people are buying Poodle mixed breeds and the Yorkie Poo is becoming one of the most accepted. The yorkipoo puppy is a good choice for someone wanting a small breed dog with an awesome personality and spunk.

Although very energetic dogs, these small mixed breed dogs do not require a lot of exercises. Simply running around the house and a daily walk is good for them.

The Poodle is a very intelligent animal and the Yorkie is very devoted to its owner. These two qualities make the Yorkie Poo puppy a very desirable dog.

Yorkipoo dogs and puppies are an intelligent, animated, and energetic breed of dog. They love to interact with their humans as much as possible. Yorkipoos want to be apart of the family. Not as a just a dog, but a member. Both as adult yorkiepoos and yorkipoo puppies are loving, warmhearted animals whom are fiercely loyal to their owners.

Do not let the small exterior fool you. These poodle yorkie mixed dogs are great protectors. They are definitely NOT SKIDDISH DOGS and have little fear of anything. Yorkie-poos tend not to know their own size compared to a big dog. They get along well with children and are very patient with them. They are highly social with other animals as well.

Yorkiepoos DO NOT HAVE FUR! They have hair they that NEVER stops growing. Grooming a yorkiepoo is extremely important, however very simple because of the trait from the yorkishire terrier.

One fact about the yorkiepoo that many are not even aware of, they are hypoallergenic and do not usually shed their furs. They make the best pets for people with allergies. Yorkie poodle mixed breeds do not have that doggy odor, so they are also very snug-able .

Dogs of more than one breed have always been known as healthier dogs. The life expectancy of a yorkie poo is 13+ years.

Interested in buying a yorkiepoo puppy for you and your family? At PocketSizedPuppies.com, we only breed top quality yorkiepoos. Our yorkiepoo puppies are born in our home and treated with the best care and love.
Reproduction causes a lot of stress in female dogs. Each pregnancy and lactation requires extra energy and nutrients and it is the duty of the owner to ensure the female does not face energy and nutrient deficiency.

An unhealthy female dog can face multiple problems during emergency. The demand for energy would be met by utilization of body reserves and body tissues. Some problems that result from an inadequate diet during pregnancy are:

The manifestation of an inadequate diet during early phases of reproduction may take on several forms. Those most likely to be recognized are:

a. Obviously sick appearance of the dog. This obvious symptom will not be visible until after the pups are born. Body weight loss causes this symptom to appear.

b. Uncontrollable diarrhea and whelping during the lactation period. Difficult to digest low calorie food compels the dog to eat more to meet her energy requirement. This causes diarrhea.

c. Fading puppy syndrome. The puppy which appeared normal at birth may be found crying and chilled due to the fact that it was disowned by the mother. The lack of energy in the mother to take care of the pup leads to rejection.

Attempts to reunite the pup with the mother will not succeed and the pup will remain hungry and dehydrated with no improvement in its weight.

d. Anemia. Deficiency in the diet may lead to this problem in the mother as well as the pup. If this problem is found, the first thing you should check is the diet of the mother.

The effect of inadequate diet on lactation can be seen in the following ways:

a. Lactation failure (agalactia). The mammary glands fail and the dog produces no milk at all. Unless remedial feeding is done and the diet of the mother is improved, the pup will die.

b. Lactation depression (dysgalactia). The mammary glands function in an adequate manner. This leads to stunting of the growth of the pup

c. Deficient milk. Inadequate nutrition may result in the milk being deficient in nutrients. Although the milk may be produced in sufficient quantities, the quality would be poor and the pup will suffer.

3. Deficient milk. The milk, although it may be produced in adequate amounts, is deficient in one or more nutrients.

How To Stop Your Dog’s From Raiding The Garbage Can

The simplest and most effective solution is to get a garbage can that has a locking lid. You could also place the can at a place where your dog cannot reach. However, these measures do not solve the real problem.

Find out why your dog raids the garbage. Some dogs find digging as a fun way to get rid of boredom. Come up with less destructive ways for your dog to avoid boredom. Supervise his excursion in the yard. That should help avoid the problem.

Teach your dog that uncontrolled digging is not acceptable. Bury a few tasty chew toys in your yard and let him dig it up. Repeat this process until your dog understands that you have no problems if he digs at that particular spot. Soon, he will not dig anywhere else.

Are vitamin and mineral supplements that necessary for your pregnant dog? Yes. Besides a balanced and healthy diet, pregnant dogs that are into their fourth week of pregnancy need more vitamins and minerals in their system. Also, a balanced di-calcium phosphate may be needed to be added into their diet as well.

“Where should I purchase these dog supplements?”

Di-calcium phosphate tablets and vitamin/mineral supplements can be obtained from most veterinarians or animal hospitals, and even some grocery stores. Health food stores are common to carry these types of animal supplements as well, so you should not have too many problems trying to locate some for your dog.

“What forms do these prenatal supplements come in?”

Just like what is supplied for humans, vitamins and minerals for prenatal dogs are sold in both powder and tablet forms. A lot of dog owners get bothered over choosing the right kind of supplements for their dogs, but it is an individual choice for you and your dog. Regardless if its form, the quality of both types of supplements is the same.

“How do I know what dosage of supplement to administer to my pregnant dog?”

You will find the correct supplement for your dog by looking at the labels of the supplements. The correct supplement for your pregnant dog will be stated clearly, and there are supplements for matrons as well as puppies. It is very important that you realize that prenatal dog supplements have gone through lab testing before they are approved to be marketed and sold in stores. There will also be specific instructions on the labels on how to give the supplements to your dog regarding the dosages or stages of pregnancy.

Your dog may not be used to swallowing tablets, or the tablet may be too big for a dog its size. What you can do is crush the tablet up into powder form and then putting it into your dog’s food for it to consume. If your dog has no problems with swallowing tablets, like my Chihuahua for instance, who swallows tablets easily when I place it at the back of his throat, you may want to choose that. But powder form supplements is also a good choice if that is what your dog is better at ingesting.

As an owner of a female dog one of the most exciting/scariest things to hear is that your beloved family pet has become pregnant. The questions start to come up, what am I going to do with all the puppies? and what should I be doing to make sure that she stays healthy?

Besides making sure that she gets plenty of rest and lots of water the best thing you can do is to feed her a high quality dog food. It is true that not all dog food is created equally and some can do more harm than good.

A pregnant dog, like a human will go through changes during pregnancy that tax the body and require more nutrients to feed and nourish the growing baby (or 4 to 8 puppies). Ideally your dog’s diet should already consist of high quality protein and essential fats but that doesn’t always happen. The fact is that dog food can be expensive, especially if your dog is a large breed or you have 2 or more of them. Sometimes costs wins out over quality, pregnancy is no time to be buying cheap garbage quality dog food.

Here are a few things to look for on the label of most dry and wet dog food. If you see them listed high up on the list on ingredients you should avoid them or at least use them sparingly.

Fillers – Fillers are basically what you might think they are, worthless ingredients that are mixed in to add bulk to the food and in some cases make your dog want to eat more (meaning more trips to the grocery store for you. These fillers are usually corn and soy products or wheat (not the whole grain either).

By-products – This is such a loose term and can literally mean any part or parts of an animal. Including, beaks, claws etc. Also allowed under the “by-product” label is the fact that these animals don’t have to be healthy. They can be cancerous or previously dead (of natural causes) and sick/dying animals. Most of these by products consist of “meat: that isn’t fit for human consumption, so why would you want to feed them to your “best friend”? Tragically some if not all of the major brands of dog food contain these garbage ingredients.

Try some of the healthier brands including Buffalo Blue, Wellness, Iams, and Taste of the Wild to name a few. Also as the time for your dog to give birth get closer try supplementing her diet with yogurt and other calcium rich foods. They will not only keep her healthy but also make the quality of her milk better for the puppies as well.
